You use the kitchen towels every day to wipe your hands, plates, cutlery, counter surface, etc.
But have you ever thought about how many bacteria these towels "host" after all that use?
Researchers from the University of Mauritius collected 100 kitchen towels after 1 month of use and found that factors such as the number of family members and type of diet affect the growth of pathogenic organisms that cause food poisoning.
In addition, multi-use towels used for wiping kitchen surfaces, drying hands, holding hot utensils and cleaning surfaces contained more pathogens than single-use towels.
"I recommend changing towels daily in the kitchen and bathroom," says Becky Rapinchuk, founder of Clean Mama and author of Simply Clean and the Organically Clean Home. "This will reduce the chances of germ transmission."
And after you learned that it is good to use a new kitchen towel every day, the next question is: When do we buy new ones?
This is probably easy to see. If they start to leave marks on glasses and plates, if they do not absorb water well from cutlery and surfaces, you should definitely buy new ones.
